Among many quests in Where Winds Meet, one group of them, called Lost Chapter, sets out for their very interesting stories that culminate with the final quest called The Promised Light.
You can see the list of all those quests right after starting the game; seven of them you'll be able to tackle at once, but the last quest, The Promised Light, is a bit different because it will require some prerequisites to start it in the first place.
In this guide, we bring you the full walkthrough of this quest: how to start it, what to do before the quest, and how to reach its end, which will award you with a very difficult boss fight. Here's everything you need to know about The Promised Light quest.
What to do before tackling The Promised Light quest
There are actually two requirements to fulfil before being able to start this quest. First, you need to level up your Qinghe exploration level to The Renowned, which means you'll need to stack up 6,000 exploration points. Once you do this, the quest starting point will appear inside Sundara Land.
However, this won't be the end of your grind because the second thing, or more precisely, a couple of things, will be to complete all seven prior The Lost Chapter quests, including Bodhi Sea, which contains an item required for this quest, and to finish the Palace of Annals quest, which can be a real pain in the neck; not because it is difficult or anything, but more because it is very hard to find if you don't know where to look.
Both the Bodhi Sea and Palace of Annals quests will reward you with one piece of Buddha's Light Jade; one will give you Yin, and the other Yang, and once you have both, you'll be able to place them at the required location to start the quest.
To tackle the Bodhi Sea quest, go to the quest starting point located slightly to the east of the Wayfarer's location in Sundara Lands (see the map below for reference). This quest is quite straightforward actually. All you have to do is follow the sounds of three wardrums and sound them yourself. This will activate the quest area where you'll fight the boss. After beating him, you'll receive one Buddha's Light Jade piece.
The Palace of Annals quest is located on the other side of the map, all the way to the south, to be exact (see the map below). Once you reach this location, you'll have to enter a big tower and follow the path to the underground, including a very intriguing lift ride. Once you reach the end of this path, you'll face a boss, and after beating him, you'll receive another Buddha's Light Jade piece.
Starting the quest
With both Yin and Yang jade pieces in possession, make your way to the quest starting location. There, you can speak to the monk if you want for some lore, but the main goal is to climb a pagoda to the very top to insert jade pieces. You can climb using the scaffoldings located on the sides of the pagoda or by executing the Lightness Skill.
Once you are at the top, insert the jade and drop down to the entrance of the pagoda. Now, one very frustrating part awaits you. To proceed through the quest, you'll have to solve a couple of puzzles containing redirecting light beams with the mirrors.
Even though those puzzles are genuinely very simple, to some, they can be tough too, especially if you don't figure out how to rotate the mirrors. To do that, you'll have to employ the Meridian Touch skill. Luckily, this skill is tied to one of the previous The Lost Chapter quests, and you'll have it already.
Execute Meridian Touch on the mirror statues and use one of the commands to either turn them clockwise or counterclockwise. Once the light beam is in the right direction, switch to the next statue until the door is open, simple as that.
The other hard part of this area is a ridiculously difficult parkour section, where you'll need to descend a large hole walking on nothing but the ropes, and on top of that, you'll have a chase sequence at the end of this section. If you fail this chasing sequence, you'll be returned to the beginning of this area.
The best advice here is to take your time at the first part of the parkour section. If you want to be extra careful, enter the stroll mode to walk super slowly. This mode can be entered by holding the L2 button (PlayStation controller) and pressing the L3 button.
Be warned, however, that once the parkour section ends or when you must jump from the rope, you'll have to disengage the stroll mode.
Fighting the boss
The boss that awaits you after you pass this parkour section and some puzzles is not to be trifled with because it can be considered one of the harder bosses in the entire game. His name is Miaoshan, and he is the three-phase boss.
This boss has a very big health pool and very devastating attacks, but his weakness is that he can easily be staggered. The best strategy is to perfect parrying his attacks and do the best to try to avoid the golden attacks. If you're struggling with beating him, activate the deflection assistance, and he will fall in no time.
