Hexi is the first major expansion to Where Winds Meet, arriving with Version 1.4 on March 6 alongside three new maps, nearly twenty regions, and eleven bosses spread across March, April, and May - plus new stories, events, and cosmetics. For everything coming in the update in March, Where Winds Meet Version 1.4 Home Afar Launches March 6 - Full Month Roadmap Revealed
Jade Gate Pass, the first of Hexi's new regions, is a vast and striking sand map - golden dunes, sweeping vistas, and a very different feel to anything in the base game. It also introduces a brand new form of traversal: a luminous fish you can ride across the open world in one of Where Winds Meet's most visually distinctive areas so far.
How to Unlock the Fish
You won't have to wait long. Shortly after arriving in Jade Gate Pass, you'll encounter a glowing path known as the Milky Way. Approach it and a short introduction will play, walking you through what the new skill called Chasing the Moon is and how to use it - so your first ride is essentially handed to you.
How to Ride the Fish
Once introduced, the mechanic is simple: press G to mount the fish and take on its form. While riding, you can also collect items without dismounting, which makes it useful for exploration beyond just getting from A to B.
The fish isn't limited to the Milky Way path either - you can mount it freely anywhere in the open world. Keep an eye on the icon next to your health bar and potions, which indicates whether the fish is available and shows its current cooldown.
There is, however, a meaningful difference between riding on the Milky Way and riding off it. On the Milky Way path the fish moves noticeably faster, and the route itself is really beautiful - well worth taking whenever it matches with where you're heading. Out in the open world, off the road, the fish is slower by default, and boosting its speed burns through stamina quickly, so it's best used for shorter stretches or when you just want a more immersive way to cross the map.
