Almost all games with a hack-and-slash combat style use healing mechanics the same way: you get healing items you can use during the combat, and those items can be replenished later, either by resting or buying/crafting new ones - something we've seen in so many games these days.
Where Winds Meet, the newest MMO action RPG from NetEase Games, uses pretty much the same mechanic, with a couple of its own original additions, though.
If you're interested in finding out everything about healing: how to replenish healing items, how to increase their number, how to upgrade the health bar, and all ways of healing, we've prepared a guide that covers pretty much everything regarding this topic.
How to heal in Where Winds Meet
There are actually a few ways of replenishing lost health in Where Winds Meet.
- Drinking medicine
- Eating food
- Activating new travelling stones or passing by unlocked ones
- Healing inside clinics
Medicine
There are four medicine vials to use in Where Winds Meet, and each one has its advantages; however, to unlock all of them, you'll have to meet certain requirements. The first vial, Hemostatic Powder, is received automatically at the start of the game, and many players will use it all the time without even realising that it can easily be changed.
The second vial (Wound Balm) is a slight upgrade and will require level 20 to unlock. The third vial (Yin-Yang Ointment) requires level 41 and some levelling inside the Healer profession.
To unlock the Healer profession, you have to choose the profession tab from the side panel, choose Healer, and follow the side quest. Once this side quest is done, you'll be able to upgrade your character in this profession. To unlock Yin-Yang Ointment, you'll need level 2, tier 5 of the healer profession.
The fourth vial, Ten Wonders Powder, is the hardest one to unlock and will be the best one to use, offering amazing healing capabilities. However, to unlock it, you'll need to be level 61, and your healer profession must be upgraded to level 3, tier 4.
How to select medicine
To select which medicine you want to use, simply press the pause button to enter the side panel (the start button on the controller or the Esc button on the keyboard) and enter the 'Bag' tab. Once inside, press square, which will lead you inside the crafting menu. Here you can craft many things, but we are interested in medicine for now.
Choose the 'Brew Medicine' tab, and here you can make the medicine if you have the right ingredients. In fact, once you run out of medicine, here is where you can make new.
Now return to the previous menu, choose the 'Quick Use' tab, and select the medicine. Here, you can choose whichever medicine vial suits you the best and, of course, how to unlock the one you fancy but haven't met the requirements for.
How to upgrade the healing items
Upgrading the healing items is not the same thing as upgrading health, and we will explain everything about that here. To upgrade the healing items, you'll have to visit Evercare Clinic and speak to Yao Yaoyao there. The clinic is located to the south of Blissful Retreat (see the map for reference).
Once you speak to her, you'll get the option to submit Medicinal Tales. Each time you have enough of those, you'll be able to upgrade the medicine chest, and by doing that, you'll either increase the carrying capacity of your medicine, strengthen the recovery effect, or add some healing buffs; each level levels up one of those attributes.
Regarding the Medicinal Tales items, those can be obtained pretty much by progressing through the game. Almost every main quest will reward you with some of those. Also, you can defeat world bosses, clear outposts, explore dungeons, and explore the world in general to locate Medicine Tales. For more details about how to get Medicine Tales, simply click on the icon after attempting an upgrade, and the game will show you all the places where you can find them.
How to upgrade health
The bar at the bottom of your screen represents your overall health, and this bar cannot be upgraded inside Evercare Clinic, like you might have assumed. To upgrade your health, you'll have to submit oddities to the NPCs that deal with them. To learn all about oddities, check out our guide.
Among many things you can upgrade through oddities will be the heart icons, which will upgrade your health bar, adding 150 HP points each. The more oddities you find and submit to oddity merchants, the more HP you'll be able to gain, simple as that.
The wounds medicine vials cannot cure
Sometimes, the hero will gain some injury that the simple medicine won't be able to cure, like the fall damage that can cause broken bones or joint damage or whatnot. Once such an injury happens, the game will warn you to take care of it until the condition worsens.
To do it, you'll have to visit a clinic to treat those injuries. The first clinic is, of course, Evercare Clinic, where Yao Yaoyao will try to cure you. However, her skills are not on the highest level, and she will be able to cure only simple injuries.
If your injury worsens, you'll have to look for a better doctor. There is a doctor in Kaifeng (the second area of the game), but if you're not that far in the game, you'll have to look for help from fellow players. Yes, you can treat other players in multiplayer, provided you have enough healer skill, or the other players can treat you.
All you need to do is look for the healer in multiplayer and ask for help. If the other player consents, they can heal you, for a fee, of course. Keep in mind that healing isn't cheap, and treating a simple wound like the misplaced joint will cost you a small fortune, so make sure to stay healthy.
Eating food
You can heal by eating food as well. Food can be prepared if you have ingredients and recipes to do so. Ingredients can be found using different methods like hunting, fishing, or gathering mushrooms and herbs, while recipes can be either bought from merchants or gained as quest rewards.
You can also buy food from the food stands located all over the world. Most of them will give you one meal for free, but the other ones you'll have to buy.
Cooking can be done either by finding dedicated places with burning fire or by entering the craft menu (we've explained the process earlier when explaining how to brew medicine).
To eat food, simply open the side panel and choose 'Bag'. Find the food inside your inventory and eat it. Eating the food will replenish some of your health.
