Xbox Game Pass could be getting another large overhaul as soon as 2027. A new rumour indicates there could be new subscription tiers, possibly including an ad-supported option. Additionally, some services currently included with Game Pass could spin off into their own paid subscriptions.
The rumoured feature with the largest impact could be day-one releases leaving Game Pass. Under this report, games would no longer launch day-and-date with the service starting sometime between February and April of 2027.
Microsoft has not commented on any of these potential changes. Until they do, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.
Microsoft May Introduce New Xbox Game Pass Plans
According to ResetEra, Microsoft could be working on a Game Pass overhaul with multiple tiers.
The prices were listed as follows:
- Game Pass with ads: $12.99/month
- Game Pass no ads: $19.99/month/$239.99/year
- Game Pass with library and online multiplayer: $14.99/month
- Online multiplayer only: $10.99/month
- Family add-on plan: $5.99/month
- Cloud gaming: $5.99/25 hours
If accurate, the reported $19.99 plan would be less than Game Pass Ultimate's current price of $22.99 per month in the US, but would reportedly lack some benefits of Ultimate.
Day-One Releases May No Longer Be Added to Game Pass
Day-one additions to Game Pass may also soon be history. Slayven claims that from February through April 2027, games won’t launch on Game Pass the day they release.
A lowered subscription price would reflect the benefits being stripped away. Day-one launches are currently advertised as one of Game Pass Ultimate’s biggest features, along with PC Game Pass. However, Microsoft has made exceptions for some big releases recently, such as Call of Duty.
Cloud Gaming Could Become Its Own Service
Game Pass’s cloud gaming may also become its own service. The rumor states Microsoft will offer cloud gaming on its own at $5.99 for 25 hours of playtime.
Microsoft detailed upcoming changes to cloud gaming recently, adding monthly playtime limits starting in November 2026 and the ability to buy extra hours. However, just because this change is confirmed doesn’t indicate the wider supposed 2027 changes are true.
