Mortal Shell 2 Review: This Sequel Means Business
A confident, deeply satisfying Soulslike that stands entirely on its own, Mortal Shell 2 is one of the best the genre has to offer right now.
AUGUST 17Dina is obsessed with souls-likes and good RPGs in general. Be it a stroll with Geralt in Novigrad or a showdown against Melania in the depths of Miquella's Haligtree, Dina is always up for an adventure. She's a PC gamer at heart, but her love for Ghost of Tsushima will probably make her buy a PS5 for the sequel.
Souls-likes are her bread and butter, but her RPG love runs just as deep, especially when there are NPCs to rob and medieval shenanigans to get into (Henry and Hans from Kingdom Come are basically family). When she's not dying repeatedly to a boss with an unreasonable amount of health, she's building habitats or surviving hostile worlds. Dina's also a proud ARAM-only League player, but her most recent obsession is Where Winds Meet, a wuxia open-world RPG that grabbed her by the collar and hasn't let go. Throw something new and shiny her way and she'll probably play that too.
Dina covers the games she loves most - souls-likes, RPGs, and anything with enough depth to deserve a proper guide. If a game rewards patience and curiosity, Dina's already two steps ahead of you.

A confident, deeply satisfying Soulslike that stands entirely on its own, Mortal Shell 2 is one of the best the genre has to offer right now.

The Troubadour's Lute is one of the more useful sidearms for players who dread being swarmed by multiple enemies at once. It turns a chaotic fight into a much more manageable one, and doesn't require a boss fight or an elaborate questline to obtain.

Fast and deceptively long-reaching, the Black Needle rewards players who like closing distance quickly. Here's where to find it in Mortal Shell 2.

Gorf is an NPC found early in Mortal Shell 2 who gives you Marsh Pearls, an item you can sell for a good chunk of gold, in exchange for Weltcaps. He also has his own small questline tied to another NPC, worth seeing through to the end.

Tarstones are equippable items that can dramatically change how you play Mortal Shell 2, from elemental weapon infusions to entirely new combat abilities. There are a lot of them, and knowing what each one does before you equip it saves a great deal of guesswork.

New mechanical bosses, a gear-puzzle dungeon, and a haunted temple survival mode are all part of the update

Titan Roc spent years chasing a vision of freeform character progression and a world worth getting lost in, and the result is Vahrin's Call. A little jagged, but generous in spirit.

Great combat, awesome boss designs, and a soundtrack that knows exactly when to go from mournful to metal make Dinoblade some of the most fun I've had with a game in a while.
