Escape From Tarkov is losing popularity rapidly due to the rampant cheating problems which were kept somewhat under wraps for a fairly long period of time.
Battlestate Games never really addressed the problem and it seems like they hoped it could be buried under the rug but then the highly popular wiggle video came out and exposed just how widespread the cheater infestation is in the game.
Four months later and the devs have declared they will crack down not on cheaters or cheat makers but on data miners of all things.
Apparently one of the reasons they are going after data miners is that it removes the "wow" effect since the info will be known ahead of time and this "does not align with the development vision".
Ironically, another reason for going after data miners is that it "can give an unfair advantage over people who do not support it" because of the aforementioned knowledge. What BSG conveniently forgot to mention is that wikis and community resources that make the complex game easier to understand would not be able to function nearly as well without data mining.
Anyway, in their announcement that they will go after data miners, the devs called themselves out on the inability to deal with the cheater problem, four months after the wiggle video exposed it for the entire world to see.
Needless to say, the community is not amused in the least and it seems like the game will continue spiralling downward for the foreseeable future.
