Riot Games recently revealed their plans to introduce a fresh game mode called 2v2v2v2 to League of Legends. This game mode will combine elements from the traditional League system with a deathmatch format.
Teams of two will engage in multiple rounds of intense combat, with opportunities to purchase items between rounds. Notably, players will have the freedom to select unique augments for their champions, similar to the mechanics seen in TFT.
These augments, chosen randomly, will have diverse effects on the champions, allowing players to enhance their basic abilities or explore alternative strategies. The possibilities within this mode are extensive.
Riot Games also disclosed that the 2v2v2v2 mode will feature multiple maps, as showcased in a recent Dev Video where early map designs were unveiled. Excitingly, new details have emerged regarding the game mode. Riot has hinted at the potential implementation of a ranked system for 2v2v2v2.
In a recent Reddit post, Riot Meddler, the Head of League Studio, confirmed their plans to introduce a ranked system for this mode. Meddler further mentioned the possibility of naming the lowest tier in the rating system for 2v2v2v2 as "Wood."
Although there is limited information available about the specific details and mechanics of the ranking system in the 2v2v2v2 game mode, there is speculation among players that it could resemble the points system found in TFT's Hyper Roll and Double Up modes.
The introduction of a ranking system suggests that Riot Games has plans to maintain the 2v2v2v2 game mode for an extended period, potentially even as a permanent addition to League of Legends.
