At the very beginning of Where Winds Meet, you'll be introduced to oddities, a special mechanic tied to Qi Sheng, one of the first NPCs you'll meet in the game.
This NPC is actually optional and can easily be missed; however, oddities are something you shouldn't miss under any circumstances because they can help you get your character much stronger, and most importantly, they will directly be tied to upgrades of your health bar.
What are the oddities? Where you can get them and everything related to them will be explained in this very guide, so without further ado, let's get into it.
What are the oddities?
Very odd name, right? Well, this is not our conclusion, but Hero's. Once our hero meets the NPC, who will require oddities from them, this is going to be his comment.
Oddities are strange items you'll be gathering all over the game's world. Do not worry; once you get one of the oddities, the game will inform you about it. The first oddity the game will tell you to get is a beehive, which the bear you'll fight to get the Tai Chi skill will try to obtain.
To get this oddity, you'll have to shoot the beehive with the fire arrow and then climb the tree to get it. You'll come across many beehives throughout the game, so every time you see one, repeat the same drill to get an oddity.
Apart from beehives, many more items will reward you with oddities or will count as oddities, like golden flowers obtained by following the golden butterflies, purple flowers, mantises you'll follow and catch, and many more.
What are oddities used for?
Oddities will be used to activate Melodies of Peace, and Melodies of Peace are a set of special skills activated by a certain NPC called Qi Sheng. You'll meet Qi Sheng to the left of the bear tied to the Tai Chi skill, trapped inside the stone. Once you help him, he will offer you melodies in exchange for oddities, and he will send you to recover the first oddity we've already mentioned (beehive).
Speak to him, and he will help you activate certain skills that can be activated only by him. Those skills, or more precisely upgrades, vary from max endurance and max HP upgrades to some passive skills and even some quest items and gear pieces. As we said before, do not sleep on this NPC because you could miss a lot.
Which Melodies of Peace to prioritise?
Just like is the case with talents, Melodies of Peace cannot be chosen randomly, meaning they are set in linear order; unlocking one melody will make the next in line available, and so on. Again, just like with talents, you'll be able to choose some sub-categories here and there, but the most important melodies are locked behind a linear path.
How to find oddities on the map?
Oddities are not shown on the in-game map (touchpad + X), but they can be tracked through the mini-map located in the upper left corner of the screen. Once the oddity is within the mini-map's range, it will show up as a black oddity icon. Track it and collect it, in whichever form it appears.
