As kids, we all loved watching those Chinese movies with dudes flying around and jumping through the air like gravity never existed. Well now, you can do those things in Where Winds Meet, the newest MMO action RPG from NetEase Games.
If you're following this game (it has been out for almost a year in China, and we had a chance to try out the demo a few months ago), you probably saw people flying around in a true Kung Fu movie manner.
This skill in Where Winds Meet is called Lightness Skill, and in this guide, we will tell you everything you need to know about it: how to get it for the first time, how to upgrade it, and how to execute it to get the most of this skill.
Where to get the Lightness Skill for the first time
This skill is directly tied to your exploration level. To get it for the first time, you'll need to find an NPC called Kui Yuehai. He can be found fishing on a small lake in Witherwilds, Qinghe (see the image below).
Once you speak to him, you'll be able to unlock a new Mystic Art called Meteor Flight. However, once you start using this skill, you'll get grounded very soon by the same NPC; only this time, he will be located elsewhere, fishing near Blissful Retreat. He will then explain to you that not everyone can use the Lightness Skill, and to do that, you'll have to obtain a certain keepsake.
It is worth noting that you can get this skill without ever talking to this NPC; just keep raising the exploration level, and once you reach the threshold of 4,000 points, redeem the reward, and you'll be able to execute the skill without speaking to anyone. Of course, talking to Kui Yuehai will offer some background story and deeper meaning to this skill, but if you don't feel like involving him, be our guest.
How to re-enable the Lightness skill
There are two major regions in Where Winds Meet, and each region has its own map and map progression or exploration level. We will explain everything related to this quest and ability for the first region, Qinghe, but everything you must do in the first region, you'll have to repeat in the second after you get inside it.
After speaking with Kui Yuehai, he will explain to you that you must earn a keepsake to keep using the Lightness skill. Earning this keepsake is directly linked to the exploration level, which can be checked if you click on the map level located in the bottom left part of your map. If you're using a keyboard and mouse, simply hover over the text and click it, but if you're using a controller, you'll have to press the Toggle View button (Xbox controller) or TouchPad (PlayStation controller) and then open it by pressing the A/X button.
There, the game will show you the exploration level for both regions. To unlock the keepsake called Afterglow Pendant, you'll need to reach level 4 Bonafide Hero or gain 4,000 exploration points.
As you might have suspected already, the exploration points are earned by exploring the map. All you need to do is go around the map and find new locations, do the side quests, do different activities, and everything that is shown on the map will give you additional exploration points once you finish a certain activity there.
Once you reach level 4 Bonafide Hero, enter the exploration progression inside the in-game map and claim the rewards; one of the rewards is the Afterglow Pendant, and that's it; from now on, you'll be able to use the Lightness skill in Qinghe. Once you reach Kaifeng, repeat the same drill.
How to execute the Lightness skill
Executing the Lightness skill is as simple as holding the jump button (Space/X/A). Keep holding the jump button, and the hero will launch themselves in the air, activating a mini interaction game.
At the bottom of the screen, you'll see the animation showing you when to press the jump button to maximise the skill effect. There are four prompts where you should press the jump button during the skill execution, but you don't have to do all four of them. If, for example, you want to interrupt the flight because you reached the desired destination, just don't press the jump button, and the hero will land safely.
How to upgrade the Lightness skill
The starting lightness skill won't bring you as far as you would have liked, but fear not; this skill can be upgraded, making you a real Superman. You'll fly as a bird through the map and reach from one end of the map to the other in a matter of seconds.
To unlock the upgrade or the new skills, you'll simply have to raise your exploration level. Once you reach the level 5 Widely Acclaimed or when you reach the threshold of 6,000 exploration points, you'll get the second upgrade.
And finally, once you reach the level 6 Wind Rider or gain the maximum 9,000 exploration points, level three of this skill will be available to you.
