Using any means of transportation in an open-world game is a must, and Where Winds Meet isn't an exception. In this guide, we will show you how to get a mount for the first time in Where Winds Meet.

Where Winds Meet, the newest MMO action RPG from NetEase Games, has a huge open world to explore, and doing so on foot would be too tedious a job. That's why such games always offer some sort of transportation, and in this game, it is a horse.

However, the horse won't be available from the beginning of the game. If you try to call a horse (Toggle View button + X on Xbox controller), you'll be informed by the game that you don't own a mount yet, so the question remains: when will you be able to use the mount?

If you're curious about this too, we have a guide with all the answers regarding this very topic.

Where to get the first mount in Where Winds Meet

The first mount isn't tied to any quest or reward the game will give you, but rather to some hidden mechanics the game won't tell you about until you stumble upon them by mere chance.

Since Where Winds Meet is an RPG title, freedom to do things your way is a trademark here, so if you want to get a horse early, you can simply steal one. There are a lot of NPCs riding around minding their own business: simply approach one of them when you see them on the road (do not worry, they move quite slowly), and snatch yourself a horse.

Be quick, though, when doing it because an NPC will try to chase you, but once you get far enough from them, the horse is yours.

Does the game punish stealing

Fortunately not, or at least not in the moment; will it stay that way? It remains to be seen. Once you steal the horse, it will become available to you, and even if you lose track of him, he will return once you call him again.

The other ways to acquire a horse

Apart from stealing (the easiest way, really, if you're not bothered with moral dilemmas), there are also some legitimate ways of acquiring horses in Where Winds Meet.

  • Buying the horse

Horses can be bought from horse merchants that you can find by exploring the world. There is one located inside Wildmane Ranch, located just to the north of General's Shrine (see the map below). You can find more horse merchants all across the game's world, usually located inside bigger settlements.

  • Taming wild horses

This method is probably the hardest one to execute, but at the same time, the most affordable one, because you'll get a horse for free and, if you're good at it, even be able to sell a horse or two, but it will require a certain skill and good reflexes as well.

To tame a wild horse, you should go to the same location shown on the map above, but instead of heading to the merchant, head a bit south to a pond where you'll see a lot of horses gathered around that pond.

Now, you'll have to approach any horse from behind and hop on its back to tame it. The problem is that horses are extremely skittish and will run away as soon as you get near them, so how do you solve this problem? Well, if they can see you, how about making yourself invisible?

One of the methods that worked perfectly for us is to use the Veil of Stillness Mystic Art. This art will allow you to become invisible, and you'll be able to approach a horse without alerting him. If you want to know how to get this mystic skill, check out our guide.

After you hop on the horse, a harder part commences - you must tame him by doing a mini game in which you'll have to press the required buttons as they appear on screen. This might seem like a simple task, but trust us, it is anything but. However, once you get enough correct inputs, the horse is yours. If you fail, you can always try with another horse, or you can wait for that particular one to calm and try again.

How to customise mounts and switch between available ones

Some missions will reward you with different mount skins, and, of course, you'll have a chance to buy new ones for real money if you prefer. To change the mount skins, pause the game and choose the 'Appearance' tab. Once there, go to the 'Mounts' tab and choose between the skins you own.

You can also choose the option to manage your mounts, where you can find the closest mount merchant and sell available horses to him. Apart from selling, you can also release the owned horse.
