One thing that wasn't explained well in Sons of the Forest is the inventory management and using the items themselves so here are a few key points.
Sons of the Forest will sometimes require you to remove whatever you are holding in your hands. For example, if you want to drink water out of a creek, you need both of your hands free.
This is where Endnight didn't explain things properly - how do you get your hands free if you have something in them?
The answer is to press G on your keyboard.
Loading screens only tell your that G button will cause the player to drop whatever they are holding but that is not entirely true. If you are holding a log, then sure, you will drop it but if you are holding an inventory item, like the axe or knife, you will simply holster them.
That's all there is to the wisdom of freeing up your hands but there is still plenty of issues with the new inventory system as you don't have quickslots.
In other words, any time you think of pulling the gun out of your holster, you need to pull out a bag which was supposed to be immersive but since it makes no sense, it actually works against immersion.
