As promised, Bungie has now revealed Marathon Season 2: NIGHTFALL is coming on June 2. Ahead of the update, the studio will unlock the full season on May 25, sharing first details on new Runner Shell options, new weapons, and Night Marsh, a version of Dire Marsh “when the sun goes down and the dangers grow.”
Season 1 will be ending soon, so players should consider swapping out gear stored in their Vault ahead of the reset. Bungie says players can expect heightened activity on existing maps this week ahead of the season reset and NIGHTFALL‘s release next month.
Gameplay changes are already being implemented ahead of the launch of Season 2. Bungie confirmed Map Events like Intercept and Lockdown will spawn at least once per run moving forward.
Matches should feel more active overall, with better rewards when these events are triggered. Wardens will always drop keys for locked rooms moving forward, as Bungie says they “were never meant to rely on RNG.”
Additional points of interest will spawn across Perimeter, Dire Marsh, and Outpost in NIGHTFALL. Players can expect additional Warden encounters across each of these maps, along with increased frequency of UESC dropships on Perimeter. Dire Marsh will also spawn a new enemy threat, described only as seeking to “shut down Runner activity.”
Stay tuned for possible hints at a hacking-esque AI or robot support class joining the fight. Bungie will buff Faction EXP from all sources this week ahead of Season 2 so players can stock up on items and resources before the new season begins.
End-of-season objectives are also netting players additional progress to help with this transition. Cryo Archive, Marathon’s hardmode end-game area, will remain unlocked daily until June 2 so players can complete weekly objectives.
Players will earn one free Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit daily, giving everyone access to Cryo Archive: Ranked between May 24 and May 28.
