League of Legends Patch 26.10 removes a long-standing minion aggro interaction, sparking debate over skill expression and lane consistency.

Patch 26.10 is coming to League of Legends soon. Riot Games detailed a change to minion aggro, specifically, they are removing an interaction which occurred when players attacked enemy minions in the laning phase.

The change is small, but players feel like this can impact wave control, trading, and lane feel as a whole. Riot said this change was meant to simplify how minions behave, but some fear that it takes away another layer of skill expression.

As part of our work to simplify and improve the game’s learnability, we are removing an inconsistent element of minion aggro that occurs when you attack enemy minions,” the Patch 26.10 notes detail. Currently, when you attack a minion, there are times where nearby enemy minions will target you in response.

LoL Patch 26.10 Minion Changes

Minion aggro when trading with enemy champions is staying in place. If players swap trades or land hits on enemy champions while minions are nearby, enemies minions will still target the attacking player.

This change only applies when players attack minions instead of enemy champions.“We want to eliminate situations where minion behavior feels random or unintuitive, particularly to newer players,” Riot continued.

“Part of learning League is understanding how minion aggression works. We feel this change will allow new players to grasp this concept more quickly.” As it stands right now, many players in the League community understand how minion aggro works but only after playing hundreds of games.

The reaction to the change has been hot and cold with some players understanding the desire for the change while others believe it hurt the skill expression in lane. Patch 26.10 is a small patch when looking at the bigger changes coming to certain champions and systems. However, this small change is one of the most contested coming into Patch 26.10’s release.
