Developer IO Interactive has announced that 007 First Light has officially gone gold. The title is set to launch worldwide later this month, but a “gold” status means that development has been completed with little chance of major alterations.
007 First Light was delayed earlier this year in order to give the game more time to shine. The Nintendo Switch 2 port suffered another delay into later this summer, but IO says the extra time has allowed them to really focus on polishing up Bond’s latest outing.
Players won’t control the James Bond they know from the movies; instead, 007 First Light introduces players to the young agent before he became a full-time member of MI6.
As players progress through the story, Bond will go from Royal Navy Recruit to newly accepted 00-agent-in-training.In total, IO says the campaign will take players about 20-hours to complete, and players will watch Bond transform from a brash playboy into the master spy audiences recognize from film and novels.
As with Hitman, players can expect a cinematic storyline mixed with tried-and-tested game mechanics.007 First Light does place a heavy emphasis on stealth and open-ended approaches to puzzles and encounters, but IO has worked to implement some Bond-specific mechanics into the game.
This includes bluff mechanics, stealth kills, fist fights, and an overall more action-oriented gunplay system.IO has previously shared gameplay of 007 First Light on PS5 Pro running at a smooth 60 FPS.
PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will offer players Performance mode and Quality mode. IO’s PC version will support uncapped FPS, DLSS 4.5, and other technologies coming after launch. Now that First Light is gold, we can expect even more previews and potential gameplay leading up to release on May 27.
