Microsoft and Discord are extending their partnership by offering new perks to Xbox Game Pass and Discord Nitro subscribers. The companies have had a robust relationship for some time, integrating Discord voice chats on Xbox devices and cross-platform streaming from Xbox to Discord communities and vice versa in the past.
The latest additions to their partnership will make it even easier for users to find and play new games.As part of a recent update to Discord Nitro, qualifying subscribers will gain access to Xbox Game Pass Starter as part of their subscription.
Discord users will also have deeper integrations when looking to play games through Game Pass.
Performance Modes Confirmed for Consoles
By clicking “Play” on a friend’s current activity or stream, users will be able to select Xbox Game Pass and be taken to a list of games they can play immediately.Xbox users will soon see rewards for their subscription arrive from Discord as well.
Starting later this month, qualifying Game Pass members will receive “Benefits for Xbox Game Pass subscribers via Discord Nitro,” according to a Microsoft spokesperson.
Nitro subscribers will gain benefits including 250 Discord Orbs per month, additional Orbs from Quest completions, and auto-applied discounts in the Discord shop.
Microsoft’s partnership with Discord is just one of the many ways it is attempting to enhance Xbox’s focus on cross-platform features. Rather than forcing players to choose between services, Microsoft is trying to integrate with platforms users already spend their time on.
The update to Discord will likely prove beneficial for Xbox as Discord is one of the most popular chat platforms in gaming. The added functionalities could make Xbox Game Pass a more attractive option for players interested in connecting with their friends to play multiplayer games, stream, and chat.
