Tactical Axe is a reliable partner but you might want something else for the actual combat. Here is where you can find Machete in Sons of the Forest, a possible alternative.
Sons of the Forest combat is a bit wonky at times but the longer your blade, the less chance you have of messing up.
Therefore, it is a good idea to loot the Machete as soon as possible, especially because it is quite close to the initial spawn point.
Endnight Games didn't specify all the benefits and drawbacks of every weapon in the game but I did find the Machete to be more reliable in combat than other early weapons, like the Tactical Axe or Spear.
Machete location in Sons of the Forest
Starting from the helicopter crash, walk along the beach to your left and you will eventually run into the place where the Machete is located.
While the destination is not far, it is not that close either and there is some walking to be done. Go past the first cave you encounter, don't enter it just yet.
Keep moving alongside the beach until you find two deflated red dinghies, located at the opposite end of a gulf next to the helicopter crash, as seen in the image below.

Go to the dinghies and loot everything around them, all of it is useful in a new run. The Machete itself will be found lodged in one of the boats.
