If you need to change your weapon quickly in Sons of the Forest, it might be tricky if you don't know how to change the backpack loadout.
Inventory system in Sons of the Forest is highly immersive but this comes at a price - you are not able to use hotkeys to change the equipped items.
While Endnight did have this mechanic in the first game, it is absent in the sequel so the next best option is to use the backpack quick access. It is still clunky but definitely faster than laying the entire inventory on the ground.
Unfortunately, the game doesn't do a good job of telling the player how to change the backpack's loadout so here is a quick guide on it.
First, you will need to open the inventory the regular way, by tapping the inventory button, the default being "I" on the keyboard.
When you have everything on the ground, hover your mouse over the backpack on the upper side of the inventory and right click it. This brings the backpack to the crafting section and shows the quick-access items.
If you want to remove items from the backpack just hover over the item and right-click it.
Similarly, if you want to add a different item to quick-access, hover the cursor over it in the inventory and right-click.
That is all there is to it. A simple but somewhat obscure mechanic that will make your life a whole lot easier once you know about it. Happy spelunking everyone!
