Developer Unknown Worlds has released the first official Early Access roadmap for Subnautica 2. With the sequel having launched into Early Access just days ago, the studio says regular updates will arrive packed with quality-of-life changes and larger content expansions.
The roadmap outlined both upcoming “short-term” fixes and future content while teasing what Unknown Worlds is currently working on while shaping the sequel with player feedback.
The studio further said that the roadmap may change as development continues based on feedback and testing.“ They won’t be releasing a huge content update every patch.
Some updates will be reserved for smaller improvements, tuning, optimisations and bug fixes,” reads a statement from the developers. “Larger updates will focus on major new story beats, introducing players to new biomes, fauna and flora, vehicles, tools, and resources.”
The first update is said to focus on various quality-of-life improvements and gameplay changes. Unknown Worlds says changes have already been implemented after player feedback received since Early Access launched.
Second major update is said to focus more on co-op aspects. Subnautica 2 is the first game in the series to include optional multiplayer support, so the developers are adding several requested co-op features and improvements down the line. Do keep in mind that player feedback will have a significant impact on the game moving forward.
Users can submit feedback through the in-game tool or by posting on Unknown Worlds’ official Nolt feedback section where suggestions can be voted on.
While some changes may shift as development continues, Unknown Worlds says it intends to continue providing regular balancing updates, optimisations, and content during Early Access. With a number of new story chapters, game features, and multiplayer tweaks confirmed, it sounds like Subnautica 2 will continue growing for some time.
