Today, developer Pocketpairs officially launched their creature-collecting survival game called Palword on Steam and Xbox through early access, and it's safe to say that the game is a massive success.
In less than 24 hours since its launch, Palword has reached over 300k concurrent players on Steam. This number obviously does not include Game Pass PC players who play via the Xbox app. We also don't have Xbox Series X|S numbers.
It's safe to assume that the number would be closer to 500k or even higher when these other storefronts are taken into account.
Furthermore, Palword is also the reason for Steam crashes today. Many players are reporting error messages when trying to purchase Palworld, that tells them to wait for a couple of minutes and try again.
This is certainly a massive success for Pocketpairs but we doubt these player numbers would matter much if the game is not being received well. Palworld currently has very positive reviews on Steam with more than 88 per cent of players liking the game.
The success of Palworld does not stop there. At the time of writing this article, Palworld is the third most viewed game on Twitch with over 250k viewers, just behind GTA 5 and Just Chatting.
It's safe to say that Palword is the first viral video game hit of 2024 and we are not really surprised by its success. It's a very unique-looking title. It features creatures like Pokemon that can use machine guns to hunt in the wild and protect your household. That may sound absurd to some players but sometimes, it's a recipe for success as Palword proved it.
