Hell Let Loose: Vietnam has arrived, and with it players can finally take the series' signature tactical battles to rice paddies and helicopters. But before you spawn into any given match, it’’s worth familiarising yourself with how each game mode works. Both objectives and victory conditions differ wildly from mode to mode.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam has four main modes: Warfare, Offensive, Conquest and Domination. Although all are focused around capturing objectives and teamwork, they each approach combat in different ways.
Modes like Warfare ask you to push a traditional frontline across the map, while Conquest gives both teams more liberty to attack a number of objectives.
Warfare
Hell Let Loose‘s classic game mode. Both teams start with their own half of the map under control. The sector in the centre starts as neutral.
Each team’s goal is to push against the other by capturing sectors one at a time. If you capture enough of the map you can eventually reach the enemy HQ.
One thing to note when capturing an objective are these two designated areas:
- Soft Cap: This large grid square that surrounds each objective.
- Hard Cap: The circle immediately surrounding the capture point.
Players inside a Soft Cap contribute 1x capturing power. If you’re inside the Hard Cap, you contribute three times as much capturing power. Uncontested, it takes around 3 minutes to cap a point.
Victory conditions
You can win a Warfare game by doing one of the following:
- Capturing the enemy HQ sector.
- Control more sectors than the enemy when time expires (90 Minutes).
Offensive
This mode puts one team in the attacker role, while the other team starts off in defence. Attackers must capture all five objectives before they can attack enemy HQ. Whenever an objective sector is active, the attacking team has 30 Minutes to capture it.
If attackers succeed in capturing the sector, defenders will fall back to the next closest sector and the 30-minute clock resets. Once a sector is captured by the attackers, defenders can’t try to recapture it.
Capturing works a little differently in Offensive. Only players inside the Hard Cap generate capturing power. In other words, there’s no such thing as softly capping an objective in Offensive.
Victory conditions
- Attackers: Capture all 5 points + enemy HQ.
- Defenders: Prevent attackers from capturing an active sector before timer expires.
Conquest
Conquest is similar to Warfare, but instead of battling around a static frontline both teams are given more freedom. There are five different capture points across the map, but unlike Offensive they aren’t held by either team at the start of the match.
The way these points are positioned create a cross shape. This gives both teams the freedom to choose where they want to attack and defend.
These features make battles more fluid than Warfare. Commanders and squads will have to think strategically about when to attack new objectives versus reinforcing their current positions.
Morale is a new shared resource that’s added into Conquest. Whenever someone on your team redeploy's Morale decreases, and it can slowly chip away if you’re controlling the minority of capture points.
Victory conditions
- The match is won by the team who controls the majority of capture points when the opposing team runs out of Morale.
- If your team controls more points but runs out of Morale first, you automatically go into Overtime. Your opponent will now have to cap the majority of points before they run out of Morale.
Domination
Domination is separated into two phases:
Both teams fight over three capture points located in the centre of the map. There is no set order these points must be captured.
When a team controls two of the three central points, the enemy HQ will spawn. Your team can then push into enemy territory and attempt to capture the enemy HQ.
Capturing the enemy HQ will result in an immediate victory. However, the enemy HQ can disappear if attacking team loses control of the majority of the 3 central points.
If neither team captures the enemy HQ by the 30 minute timer, then the team who controls the majority of points wins.
Victory conditions
Domination matches are won when a team either:
- Captures enemy HQ.
- Controls more points when time expires.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam features four unique modes. Warfare mode revolves around contesting a conventional front line. Offensive is attacker versus defender. Conquest allows teams more flexibility and introduces a new system Morale. Domination pits teams against each other over control of centralised objectives, culminating in an assault on each team's HQ.
