Dawn of War IV is now set to launch in December, which is a good thing

KING Art Games have delayed Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV to December 3, avoiding a slate of big AAA releases that are scheduled to launch in September.

Developer King Art Games have pushed back the release of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV to December 3. The studio say the extra time is going toward performance optimisation, bug fixing and general gameplay polish, along with folding in feedback gathered from recent community playtests.

But another important bit is that now, Dawn of War 4 will avoid the absolutely packed month of September, which includes the releases of  The Blood of DawnwalkerOnimusha: Way of the Sword, Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall and a bunch of other high-profile titles.

Creative Director Jan Theysen said the team saw an opportunity in these final stages to push the game closer to their original vision, rather than compromise on quality to hit the original date. Development is continuing at full pace in the meantime, with more Battlefield Reports, gameplay showcases and developer deep dives promised in the run-up to launch.

Commander Edition players still get in early, deploying from November 30 through a three-day early unlock window.

Year One Roadmap

Alongside the new date, KING Art have put out an updated Year One roadmap. Free post-launch content includes the return of Crusade Mode, new map packs, the Mission Editor, and new Commanders Lord Ahmnok and Guzcutta, rolling out through spring and summer 2027.

Two paid story expansions are also planned for Year One: a Blood Ravens story prologue, and a larger Aftermath campaign expansion that introduces a new playable faction. Specific release dates for this post-launch content haven't been confirmed yet, and KING Art have noted the roadmap's windows are subject to change.
