The house of Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced a lawsuit against Pocket Pair, developers of the hit game Palworld, unofficially described in many quarters as "Pokémon with guns."
In fact, Nintendo's lawyers are ready to strike; they have cited Palworld for several patent infringements. According to Nintendo, the first and foremost problem with Palworld is that most of the creatures in it are thoroughly reminiscent of the classic Pokémon designs.
The lawsuit comes eight months after Palworld launched on PC and Xbox, in a period where the game found many fans-finding 25 million players within the first month.
While Palworld does share greatness with Pokémon when it comes to designing creatures, the actual gameplay is very different. It's more about surviving and gathering resources, with other mechanics that make it far from the traditional feeling of Pokémon. T
he interesting thing now is how this judicial fight will continue and what repercussions it may have on Palworld. It is unlikely that Nintendo will push for the removal of the game from being sold.
They also do want a very substantial financial compensation for the fact that Palworld was one of the best-selling games of the year.
For the time being, the community of the game will have to patiently wait and see how this situation will affect the game and its developers. Palworld is currently available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
