If there was any doubt, it's long gone now. CRPGs are alive and well and Baldur's Gate 3's incredible launch on Steam is the ultimate proof of that.
Larian Studio's latest title managed to peak at over 400k concurrent players in the first couple of days and just as we predicted in that article, the concurrent player count skyrocketed over the weekend, peaking at over 800k on Sunday.
That's just below of Warner Bros' Hogwarts Legacy record-breaking launch on Steam, which saw this Harry Potter RPG reach a total of 879,308.
Obviously, Larian Studios don't care about this record since they didn't even expect these numbers in their wildest dreams, as revealed by the developer on X social media, who jokingly wrote that it would be best to avoid the IT team, who were told they should expect 100k players at peak.
Baldur's Gate 3 is also receiving an overwhelmingly positive response on Steam. At the time of writing, 92 per cent of reviews on Steam are positive, which is certainly another big success for the developers.
It will be interesting to see if Starfield manages to beat Baldur's Gate 3 and Hogwarts Legacy on Steam since the game is also launching on Game Pass on PC, which will surely take away some players from Valve's platform.
