PlayStation fans will have to wait a little longer to play as Faye. Santa Monica Studio have announced that God Of War Laufey has been delayed by just over three months, moving from its original 16 February 2027 release date to 20 May 2027.
Why God of War Laufey has been delayed
In a statement shared on social media, the studio thanked fans for the excitement since the game’s reveal in June, and said they don’t take for granted the trust placed in them to deliver “an extraordinary experience”.
Santa Monica Studio said they’ll use the extra time to put in the finishing touches and push the game “to its fullest potential”, and promised to share more updates soon. The studio didn’t give any more specific reasons for the delay.
God of War Laufey stars Faye, Kratos’ wife, whose death sets up the events of 2018’s God of War. After dying, she wakes up in the Everywhen, a realm where gods from many different mythologies compete for power. She sets out to protect Kratos and Atreus from a threat linked to plans she left behind.
The game was revealed with 20 minutes of gameplay during Sony’s State of Play in June, and its original release date was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July. At the same panel, Santa Monica Studio confirmed that the next God of War game will return to Kratos and follow on from the events of Laufey.
God of War Laufey now launches on 20 May 2027, exclusively on PlayStation 5. It’ll also be available on physical disc.
