Concentration provides powerful buffs and debuffs but countering it is somewhat easy.

Baldur's Gate 3 is an RPG through and trough and as such, it features classes that excel at making everyone else better at things they do.

For example, Clerics can provide additional actions, buff stat checks, buff attack, give AC and much more but all of the powerful buffs have one thing in common - Concentration.

What is Concentration in Baldur's Gate 3?

Concentration is a mechanic that mostly serves to counter some of the most powerful buffs and debuffs in the game. For example, Haste will provide a character with additional movement speed and an action point at the same time, obviously making them much more powerful in an instant.

To avoid such spells being overpowered, the caster will need to maintain Concentration if you wish to keep the bonuses.

How to break Concentration

Failing to maintain Concentration breaks the effects of a spell. Those under Haste will no cease to have additional AP and movement speed and will be afflicted with the Lethargic debuff.

To break a caster's concentration you don't need to do anything special - just hit them with your attacks. Being hit will cause the caster to undergo a saving throw and should they fail it, so will the spell they are maintaining. Damage from both spells and regular attacks can break Concentration.

Additionally, putting a character out of commission, for example with Sleep or Banishment, will break Concentration without having to go through the saving throw.
