Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn’t done yet. Six years after launch, Ubisoft have released what they’re calling The Most Requested Update, a free patch that adds a handful of features fans have been asking for, along with a visual upgrade for PS5 Pro owners.
The biggest addition is New Game+, which lets players start Eivor’s saga again while keeping their progress. There’s also a new Enhanced Progression Mode option and a reworked Power calculation, alongside two new achievements.
Fans of Assassin’s Creed Shadows get a nod too: the update adds a Master Assassin Naoe outfit, so Eivor can dress up as Shadows’ shinobi protagonist. There’s also an update to Animus Hub synchronisation.
Upgraded PSSR on PS5 Pro: Quality mode at 60fps
PS5 Pro owners get an extra treat. The update adds upgraded PSSR, Sony’s AI upscaling tech, which Ubisoft have already used in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Black Flag Resynced.
Speaking to the PlayStation Blog, engineering studio manager Priscilla Nguyen said the upgraded PSSR is “much crisper and more visually stable” than the game’s previous upscaler. It also lets Valhalla’s Quality mode run at 60fps in 4K on PS5 Pro.
Nguyen said the team didn’t need to overhaul the game’s content or visual assets. The main challenge was balancing image quality and performance in a game built years before the PS5 Pro existed.
Should you go back to Valhalla?
If you never finished Valhalla, or you’ve been waiting for an excuse to go back, this is a pretty good one. New Game+ was one of the most common requests from players, and a sharper 60fps Quality mode should make England’s meadows, forests and highlands look better than ever. Keep in mind, though, this is still one of the most bloated games Ubisoft ever made, so expect 100+ hours of gameplay.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launched in November 2020, putting players in the boots of Viking raider Eivor as they leave Norway to settle in ninth-century England. It became one of the best-selling games in the series and received two major expansions, Wrath of the Druids and The Siege of Paris, as well as the standalone Dawn of Ragnarök.
