The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel
The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel is the next mainline entry in Bethesda’s fantasy RPG series. It’s developed and published by Bethesda and it follows The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from 2011. Todd Howard directs and produces the game, which runs on the studio’s new Creation Engine 3.
The game was first announced with a short teaser at E3 2018, but Bethesda Game Studios shipped Fallout 76 and Starfield first. Full production only began after Starfield launched in 2023. Howard has since called it a “classic Bethesda” RPG in the vein of Oblivion and Skyrim.
The Sentinel subtitle was confirmed on 3 November 2026 in a video celebrating Bethesda’s 40th anniversary, about eight years after the original teaser. Fans had predicted the name months earlier from an Easter egg in Starfield. The teaser closes on a desert landscape with a line from a Moth Priest of Hammerfell’s High Queen, dated 4E 206. That points strongly to Hammerfell as the setting, five years after the events of Skyrim. Sentinel is a major kingdom in the province.
Bethesda hasn’t announced platforms or a release date. Under Microsoft ownership, it’s expected on Xbox and PC, and reports suggest it won’t launch before 2028.
