CI Games have released a new combat trailer for Lords of the Fallen II, showing faster, more aggressive melee, almost 30 weapon move sets and a major overhaul of magic and ranged builds.

Lords of the Fallen II is shaping up to be a much quicker beast than its predecessor. CI Games have released a new combat gameplay trailer for the soulslike sequel, alongside the latest episode of the studio’s “Lifting the Veil” development series, focused on melee, magic and ranged combat.

Almost twice as many weapon move sets

The biggest change is variety. Lords of the Fallen II has almost 30 distinct weapon move sets, up from 15 in the original game. Boss weapons also come with their own signature attacks, and there are new counterstrikes for players who like to punish enemy mistakes.

You can now carry two melee loadouts and switch between them mid-combo, without breaking the flow of combat. Each loadout also has two quickfire abilities, giving instant access to spells, projectiles or buffs without changing stance.

Experimenting should be less painful too. Weapon upgrades can be recovered for a small cost, so you won’t have to waste resources if you decide a new weapon suits you better. With so many weapon types and obviously weapons to choose from, this is certainly a welcomed QoL addition.

Players who prefer to keep their distance haven’t been forgotten. Magic and ranged weapons now have dedicated stances, and each catalyst can hold up to four instantly castable spells, drawn from seven schools of magic.

Ranged weapons also have infinite base ammo, which CI Games say makes ranged builds viable for an entire playthrough. Anyone who’s run out of arrows halfway through a boss fight in a soulslike will know why that matters.

The trailer accompanies episode 11 of “Lifting the Veil”, titled “Steel & Sorcery”. It’s led by chief creative officer Ryan Hill and lead combat designer Mike Vermeulen, and features members of the game’s Launch Creative Team, including content creator Travis “Pastorgainz” Hughlett.
