Bungie has been trying to figure out a way to balance the Legendary Shard economy in Destiny 2 and since complications like purchasing and recycling certain items at Eva Levante, Master Rahool and Ikora kept popping up, it became nigh impossible to make Shard sinks without ruining it for other players.
As a result, the Legendary Shard currency will be going away in Season 23, which is currently planned to start on November 28, 2023.
Since the currency was used almost everywhere, it may seem like removing it is going to be problematic for purchases but it really isn't.
The prices will remain pretty much the same, just without the Legendary Shard costs. This applies to purchasing Exotics in the Tower as well, which will simply require Glimmer, Exotic Ciphers and Spoils of Conquest where applicable.
Similarly, focusing weapons and armour will be done for the same price as it is now, just without the Shards.
As for the Shards in your inventory when the new season begins, they will simply disappear as no compensation will be present, regardless of how many Shards are removed.
Therefore, it is best to use them up before November 28, 2023, in any way you deem fit.
Since Glimmer will feel a lot more pressure as the universal currency, Bungie noted players will be getting more of it to compensate for any imbalances created by the removal of Legendary Shards.
