The largest addition to the new Apex Legends event is the overhaul to Wildcard mode. Playing quickly changing rounds of completely different rulesets, Randomized modifiers will affect gameplay for five rounds at a time.
Rounds can range from completely normal all the way to altering how players can move or interact with the match. Players will be able to double jump and run faster with Featherweight, start the round with fully upgraded Mythic weapons with Red Handed, or even play as tiny versions of themselves with Small Fry.
Modifiers also include Crouching Camo, which grants Legend’s the ability to cloak themselves while crouching or sliding, Blind Box which gives every player the same random weapon, and Explosive, which allows players infinite grenades and explode like a grenade when killed.
Respawn is also introducing Blank Slate as a modifier that will disable all active effects to allow for a more traditional round.
Wildcard will now have its own dedicated map rotation for the first time. Available during the event will be Kings Canyon, Olympus, and Broken Moon. Allowing the mode to have a separate identity, this change should allow Respawn to try out even crazier and faster gameplay changes in the future.
Players will also be able to unlock 25 new cosmetics as part of the event. Showcasing bio-enhanced designs as Respawn pushes the limits on their Legends, players can unlock new skins for Octane, Fuse, Wraith, Bangalore, and Lifeline.
Getting some extra love during the event is Ash who is receiving his first ever Prestige Skin. Included with the skin are multiple tiers of upgrades, a custom finisher, and a unique dive trail players can see when diving into a match.
As players pick up Vials throughout the event, they’ll be able to spend them at the event shop to unlock prizes. However, some players will have to unlock certain cosmetics with in-game purchases as well.
