Controller players in Apex Legends are experiencing more prominent aim assist effects after Respawn implemented changes to their anti-cheat systems. Controller players can expect decreased accuracy levels following the new update, with the developer confirming aim has dropped by roughly 2–4%.
Respawn attributes this accuracy loss to their efforts to clamp down on aim assist cheating methods, such as RC Filters. The unintended drawback was less accuracy for legitimate controller players using aim assist as intended.
Respawn officially implemented their changes to anti-cheat systems on July 10. The developer wanted to address exploiters using RC Filters to game the aim assist system. While effective at stopping cheaters, Respawn’s update also impacted controller players who use aim assist legitimately.
Respawn confirmed to players that controller accuracy is down roughly 2–4% since the changes. However, this statistic doesn’t mean that Respawn weakened aim assist by that percentage.
Changes To Mechanics Surrounding Aim Assist
Instead, changes were made to the mechanics surrounding aim assist that have culminated in a 2–4% decrease in player accuracy. Respawn says part of the previous accuracy came from players exploiting aim assist and not accounted for legitimate players.
Players say they’ve noticed changes to aim assist during long-range fights. Respawn said its July 10 changes made some differences to how aim assist fires at longer ranges.
Respawn didn’t want to publicly share any information about their changes at first because they were worried cheat creators would use that information to create smarter cheats. Despite the setbacks, Respawn says its update is necessary to ensure cheating doesn’t run rampant in Apex Legends.
Respawn said it will be monitoring controller players and anti-cheat measures moving forward. If necessary, more changes to aim assist may come in future updates.
