Respawn Entertainment has announced one of the largest Ranked matchmaking tests yet coming to Apex Legends. Diamond and higher Ranked lobbies will soon be solo queue only for everyone.
Starting June 9 and lasting until June 23, all players in Diamond, Master, and Apex Predator will be forced to queue into Ranked matches alone. During that period, premade duo and three-stack queues will be disabled for players in those tiers. Respawn wants to see how eliminating premades affects the game at the highest levels of Ranked.
They believe solo queue-only matchmaking will create more balanced high-skill lobbies and reduce the effectiveness of premade teams. It should also resolve many complaints from solo queue players about always losing to coordinated groups at the top of the Ranked tiers.
Respawn Wants Fairer High-Level Ranked Matches
Respawn says the purpose of the experiment is to increase competitive integrity at the higher levels of Ranked play. With all players in Diamond rank or higher forced into solo queue, the developer hopes teams will be more evenly matched, and less players will be able to create mismatched teams and feed.
Hard carries into Diamond, Master, and Apex Predator has been a concern echoed by the Apex Legends community for many seasons now. The upcoming experiment is just one of many matchmaking tweaks listed on EA’s official forums.
As such, it’s clear that Respawn is trying different methods to balance out Ranked as a whole.Community members are already weighing in on the upcoming changes. Some are happy that there will finally be some semblance of a level playing field, but others are upset at having to queue into matches without their friends.
