Alter takes centre stage in Apex Legends Season 21 with her ability to create one-way portals, allowing passage through surfaces like walls and terrain. She joined the roster of Apex Legends as the 26th Legend with the launch of Season 21 on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024. Players can unlock Alter for 12,000 Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins.
Little is currently known about this enigmatic character. This mischievous and chaos-inducing Void Breacher is poised to introduce new levels of disorder to the game. Being a skirmisher, her tactical ability, Void Passage, has garnered significant attention and discussion.
Even though only a short time has passed since the season's release, players have already begun employing Void Passage in inventive ways to surprise and "kidnap" opponents, generating widespread excitement.
Before we take a look at the "kidnapping" mechanic, let's take a quick look at her abilities:
- Gift from the Rift (Passive): Alter can detect death boxes through walls and retrieve one item from them without opening the box.
- Void Passage (Tactical): Alter opens a portal that can be attached to ceilings, doorways, or walls for quick traversal or surprise attacks.
- Void Nexus (Ultimate): Alter sets up a Nexus that acts as a teleportation point. She and her teammates can use it to return to the Nexus location at any time, even after being knocked down.
How does Alter "Kidnap" Enemies?
An Apex Legends player shared a clip from Solo mode on Reddit showing how they used Void Passage to pull a player from high ground to low ground for an easy kill. This was after they noticed two players battling above them.
The community quickly began brainstorming how this ability could be used in various situations. Some suggested it would be “great for sneaking around in trios and separating the third member.”
Others thought it could be a “solid strategy” when different teams are spread across multi-story buildings, particularly in the late stages of Ranked as the ring closes in.
However, some players believe Alter has “disrupted” the skirmisher class because pro teams in Apex will find new ways to leverage her abilities in ALGS. One comment read, “Teams camping with Controller Legends are done for. LOL.”
Since Apex Legends Season 21 has just launched, and judging by the feedback, players will keep discovering new and creative ways of using Alter’s abilities. So we can expect to see more exploits like this in the upcoming weeks.
