With the start of the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Split 2 Pro League, the developers are introducing a new POI Draft system to the competition format.
Respawn Entertainment designed this change to level the playing field and challenge teams to adapt to various POIs and playstyles. While there has been some discussion about this on social media, here's a quick rundown of POI drafts and their impact on the competition.
Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Split 2 Pro League Format
Before each match day, teams will choose their landing spots one at a time from a pre-determined list on Storm Point and Worlds Edge.
The selection order varies by event:
- Split 2 Pro League POI Drafts will use randomly seeded snake drafts.
- Pro League Regional Finals, Split 2 Playoffs, and ALGS Championship POI Drafts will use performance-based weighted drafts.
The POI draft process generally follows these steps:
- A team representative will join the ALGS Pro League discord before each draft.
- For the Split 2 Pro League, Regional Finals, Split 2 Playoffs Group Stage, and Championship Group Stage, teams have ninety (90) seconds to choose.
- For the Split 1 Playoffs Bracket Stage and Finals, and the ALGS Championship Bracket Stage and Finals, teams have thirty (30) seconds.
- Teams can choose a World’s Edge or Storm Point drop spot for their first pick. By the end of the draft, each team must have a chosen drop spot on both maps.
- Once a landing spot is chosen, it is no longer available.
Apex Legends Pro League Regular Season Split 2 Seeding:
The seeding will be randomly assigned within their regular-season groups.
Teams will be seeded according to their rank after Match Day 9 of the Pro League Regular Season.
Group Stage
Regional seeding is determined by each Region's performance and the Finishing Rank of Teams at the Split 1 Playoffs. Each team in the Split 2 Playoffs Group Stage will be seeded within their Region’s position.
Winners Round & Elimination Round 1
Teams will be seeded according to each team’s Group Stage Total Match Score.
Elimination Round 2
Teams will be seeded based on each team’s total Match Score, which includes their Group Stage Total Match Score added to their Winners Round or Elimination Round 1 Total Match Score.
Match Point Finals
Teams will be seeded based on each team’s total Match Score, including their Group Stage Total Match Score added to their Winners Round or Elimination Round 2 Total Match Score.
That's the quick overview of POI Drafts. We're eager to witness it in action during the upcoming Split 2 Pro League, starting June 1 across all four regions.
