Season 21 introduced a new legend, Alter, and she has definitely taken the spotlight and centre stage in Apex Legends. Alter has instantly become a fan favourite and has definitely shaken up the meta.
Players have found Alter to be quite strong yet balanced. As a Skirmisher Legend, her unique abilities offer ways for her and her team to reposition quickly, allowing them to initiate or disengage from fights effectively using her Ultimate and Tactical skills.
However, some players have encountered a bug causing server crashes when playing as Alter. This issue is causing disruptions and impacting gameplay experiences for those using the new Legend.
What is the new bug with Alter? What conditions cause this bug?
Respawn Entertainment reintroduced the popular map, Kings Canyon, for the first split of the season. This gave players the opportunity to battle it out in iconic locations like Skull Town. Players have discovered a bug involving the new Legend Alter, which is causing server crashes, particularly on the Kings Canyon map.
The bug occurs when Alter uses the Void Passage ability to enter a vault through a wall while another player simultaneously tries to open the vault with a grenade. This causes an instant disconnect for all players in the match, triggering an error message that reads, “Server shutting down—internal server error.”
The players affected by this glitch have taken to Reddit to report the issue, providing video evidence and advising others to avoid using Alter's tactical to access grenade vaults. Initially, some players thought the glitch was an intentional response to a unique use of Alter's ability, but their assumptions were incorrect.
However, fans of Kings Canyon are understandably disappointed that playing the new Legend on their favourite map poses such a risk. One player commented, “Kings map is gone again,” while others pointed out that similar bugs involving vaults have been problematic in past seasons.
The repeated problems with vaults in Apex Legends have led some players to express frustration, suggesting that the frequency of these bugs has reached a point where it's becoming "silly." Given the impact on gameplay, this bug will likely be a high priority for Respawn Entertainment to address in upcoming patches or hotfixes.
