Konami finally revealed a new trailer for their upcoming remake of the iconic psychological horror Silent Hill 2, which is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC.
This time around, the publisher decided to focus on the combat mechanics of the game, so we got to see some raw melee action with the good old wooden plank and also glimpses of shotgun and handgun shooting sequences.
And while the trailer certainly delivered in terms of presenting the atmosphere of the game with a very dark and depressing look, Silent Hill 2 fans are not even closely impressed by what they've seen from the game combat-wise.
In the YouTube comments, many players point out that the combat animations look "stiff" and "rough" resulting in melee hits feeling off without any impact.
Silent Hill fans also noticed how the sound effects for specific actions like the gunshots and kicking sound bland, akin to something that can usually be found on stock sound websites.

However, the biggest disappointment comes from the lack of a concrete release date. The end screen only mentioned that Silent Hill 2 is still in development for PlayStation 5 but we didn't even get a release year, which means developer Bloober and Konami are not that confident in the game's release in 2024.
Silent Hill 2 was among the 2024 games in Sony's recent blog post, which still gives us some hope that this long-awaited horror remake releases by the end of the year.
But on the other hand, given how underwhelming the new trailer looks in the eyes of Silent Hill fans, perhaps it's for the best if Konami and Bloober Team spend some extra time on this one, just to hit that level of polish and quality we expect from a modern, big budget remakes.
Silent Hill 2 Remake is coming to PC and PlayStation 5. The Xbox Series X|S version is yet to be announced.
