Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of the most anticipated RPGs of 2024 but the recent rumours about the lack of 60 FPS performance mode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have slowed down the hype that Capcom have been building with a series of gameplay trailers over the last couple of months.
As shared by the social media X user PC Focus, A Japanese insider reveals that Dragon's Dogma 2 will not launch with 60 FPS performance mode. Apparently, such a feature is not something that Capcom have in mind for their action RPG.
The footage we've seen so far from various gameplay trailers was indeed in 30 FPS, which could fuel these rumours further but as always with unconfirmed reports, take everything with a massive grain of salt.
We reached out to Capcom PR for a clarification on this and will update this article if the publisher respond in the coming days.
Capcom did reveal the official system requirements for PC a while back and they are quite reasonable with the Nvidia RTX 2080 and AMD Radeon RX 6700 under the Recommended GPU section.
This tells us that the team probably did a great job with the game optimisation so it's a bit surprising that Dragon's Dogma 2 will only launch with 30 FPS mode on consoles, if the rumours are legit, of course.
In addition, the lack of performance mode on consoles is not something that Capcom's games are known for. Every next-gen title that launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S features a 60 FPS mode, including Resident Evil 4 Remake, Street Fighter 6 and Exoprimal to name a few so it would be odd if Dragon's Dogma 2 is the first one to be 30 FPS only.
The RE Engine has been doing wonders for Capcom's games so far when it comes to great performance and visuals. The latter is set to continue judging by the pre-release screenshots and gameplay but whether the performance also continues to be flawless, it remains to be seen.
