The next big Assassin's Creed game officially codenamed Red could launch sooner than expected. This sprawling action adventure RPG which is set in Japan is currently targeting the second half of 2024 for its release window, according to industry insider Tom Henderson.
Recent rumours also suggest that a new trailer for the game could be revealed in May with the official gameplay showcase coming in July at Ubisoft Forward. Keep in mind that none of this is confirmed by Ubisoft so take it with a grain of salt.
You may recall that a Ubisoft employee already hinted at the 2024 release in one of their LinkedIn posts, calling Assassin's Creed Japan one of the biggest video game blockbusters of 2024.
There's certainly a lot of smoke surrounding the potential release date of Assassin's Creed Japan and that only tells us that Ubisoft could soon officially reveal some news, to stop any other information leaking out.
Details about Assassin's Creed Red are pretty scarce at the moment. We know that the game will be akin to Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla in terms of scope, so expect a gigantic open world, lots of characters and a lengthy story.
On top of that, rumours state that Ubisoft could dial down on the open-world bloat, meaning the new map may not be jam-packed with question marks and other various icons. Instead, the team could be taking a different approach similar to Elden Ring, which uses landmarks to guide the player through the world.
This does sound a bit too good to be true and we would be surprised if Ubisoft take that approach for Assassin's Creed Red but we're certainly hopeful that there could be some truth to these rumours. Perhaps the dev team actually learned from the Odyssey and Valhalla feedback and want to try with something different this time around.
Assassin's Creed Red should be the first true next-gen Assassin's Creed title, meaning it's only coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
