Bloober Team’s best-selling Silent Hill 2 remake could be leaving PlayStation console exclusivity behind. A newly surfaced ESRB rating for the psychological horror classic has the game listed for Xbox Series X/S, making it a very strong indication that the game will be crossing over from just PS5 and PC.
Premiering as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, Silent Hill 2 is a foggy, modern reimagining of the story of James Sunderland and his descent into the titular game. The overhauled visuals, mocap, and immersive combat were praised across the board, with many lauding it as one of Bloober Team’s finest games to date.
ESRB Confirms Xbox Series X/S Rating
Konami has been re-rated on the ESRB's website on October 31, 2025. While appropriate for the franchise, the October 31 release date for the re-rating may be to capitalize on Halloween spirit.
The summary of the re-rating also remained consistent with past listings, which is unsurprising as it still has a Mature 17+ rating for "intense violence, blood and gore, and disturbing images.
While there hasn't been any official announcement by Konami, new certification for Xbox has likely ended the timed exclusivity window. This also has also been seen in other similar situations throughout the industry, where some major first-party PlayStation exclusives have come to Xbox within several months of the original release date.
What About Other Platforms?
There’s still no sign of a Nintendo Switch release, or any indication of a cloud-based release either. But a new Xbox release would at least put Silent Hill 2 in front of a much wider audience than it already has.
That’s especially true if the speculation surrounding Game Pass proves true. We don’t have a release date just yet, but if the ESRB timing is anything to go by, we could see that reveal dropping very soon.
