Helldivers 2 is doubling its level cap to 300. Here's how banked XP works, what changes with the new progression system, and why veteran players will level up instantly.

Helldivers 2 continues to push the envelope on its long-term progression systems. Arrowhead Studios recently confirmed that Helldivers 2 will be raising its level cap from 150 to 300 with a future update. As a part of a larger progression revamp, this shift will reward longtime players with new goals to work towards without invalidating the experience they’ve already accumulated past the current level cap.

Helldivers originally launched with a level cap of 50. Now, the level cap is increasing yet again, extending the amount of levels you can achieve in Helldivers 2. Levels are unique in Helldivers 2 compared to weapon unlocks or Stratagems.

As soon as you unlock everything early game, there’s not much to show for how much time you’ve poured into the game. Levels past 25 have always acted as a prestige system to show you how long you’ve been playing Helldivers. Raising the level cap to 300 will continue this trend by providing even more ranks, titles, and vanity available to showcase just how hardcore you are.

Helldivers players who already reached level 150 will not be punished for continuing to play. Arrowhead reassured players that all of the experience earned after hitting level 150 has been queued up and saved behind the scenes. When the update goes live, each player’s total XP will be recalculated to reflect their new level under the increased level cap.

This process is identical to what occurred when the level cap was raised from 50 all the way to 150. At the time, players who logged into Helldivers 2 after grinding out missions past level 50 saw that they had been instantly promoted several levels to match how much experience they had accrued.

In addition to the level overhaul, Arrowhead is introducing Galactic War Campaigns and Personal Campaign Progression tracks, further incentivizing players with long-term goals beyond Major Orders.

Helldivers players who have yet to reach level 150 will not be affected by the update. Level progression will carry over as normal while the level cap simply extends farther than before.
