Helldivers 2 has launched a new Galactic Campaign centered around the Terminid Control System 2.0, with players able to unlock the R-4 Hyena Marksman Rifle.

Arrowhead Game Studios has shared a new installment in Helldivers 2‘s Galactic War storyline. The update sends players on a mission to assist in building Terminid Control System 2.0, otherwise known as TCS 2.0, in an effort to stop the bugs once and for all.

The latest operation was announced in a new campaign bulletin. While previous installments focused on exterminating Terminids with Termicide, this latest operation will instead revolve around defending new megastructures from Terminids while they’re under construction.

A new mission bulletin from the game’s Ministry of Defense states that TCS 2.0 will be “bigger, better, and safer than Termicide 1 ever was.” Those who complete the campaign will be able to unlock a new weapon to use in their battles against Terminids: the R-4 Hyena Marksman Rifle.

In past operations taking place during the Second Galactic War, players launched Termicide towers designed to spray planets with Terminid-killing chemicals. While Terminids were initially wiped out in many sectors, populations eventually returned due to Termicide-resistant mutations that began to arise.

After Super Earth was forced to scrap the original Terminid Control System project, players will now have to take part in its successor. As opposed to spraying planets with chemicals, TCS 2.0 will have players build towering defensive barricades in space to contain the bugs.

TCS 2.0 also marks another installment in Helldivers 2‘s newly rolled-out Galactic Campaigns feature. Detailed earlier this month, Galactic Campaigns will replace Helldivers 2‘s outdated Major Orders format with story campaigns that last one to three weeks.

These campaigns give players well-defined goals, allow for story progression, and provide rewards players can actually use beyond medals. Progress on current campaigns can be monitored in players’ ships via the new Control Center.

The new campaign update also introduces a new Forest (Fall) biome, as well as a litany of weapon balancing changes, enemy balancing changes, and quality-of-life improvements.
