Helldivers 2 has gotten its 7.0.0 major update, titled Devoid of Liberty. The Galactic War progresses as the Helldivers fly closer to the Void, featuring mutated enemies from the Illuminate faction and friendly SEAF troops that may join them mid-mission.
Several quality-of-life changes have also been implemented thanks to community feedback. Assisted Reloads function differently, the GATER receives several improvements, and the level cap has doubled from 150 to 300. In addition to weapon tweaks, new features, balance changes, and tons of bug fixes.
New Illuminate Enemies
Hideous creatures have been mutated by the Void into new foes for Helldivers to contend with.
The Crusher sports an enormous health pool and the ability to regenerate damage over time. Deal enough damage fast enough and the Crusher can be taken down before it recovers.
The Wretch sports boosted mobility, dodging and jumping around to get closer to players while trying to disarm them. Fast reflexes and accurate aim will be crucial for dispatching them.
SEAF Troops Can Assist Helldivers in Missions
Support from Super Earth Armed Forces have arrived in Devoid of Liberty. Friendly SEAF troops will spawn during missions when enabled as a planet modifier, and assist the Helldivers in combat.
SEAF troops got some QOL improvements themselves. They feature new models, improved AI behaviour, and their own weapon loadouts, sporting Stim Pistols and Heavy Machine Guns. SEAF Troops can even destroy enemy spawn markers, giving squads a chance at some extra help when an area is covered by too many foes.
Level Cap Increased
Player progression returns with a larger cap. Level 150 no longer represents the peak of Helldiver progression, with players now able to reach rank 300. Each new tier of 15 ranks feature their own icon and name.
Assisted Reloads Can Work Differently
Helldivers performing Assisted Reloads no longer need to have the same ammo type equipped. Previously, if the Helldiver with the weapon needed someone to finish their reload, the player feeding them ammo needed to be equipped with the matching ammo type.
Players can now feed each other ammo as long as either person is carrying the ammo type required for that weapon. It’s a small change that should open up Assisted Reloads to more situations than before without needing to worry about matching loadouts.
Players Can Equip More Emotes
Previous updates doubled the number of emotes players could equip. Each Helldiver can now equip 8 instead of 4 specials from the emote wheel.
That’s right folks, you can shame your teammates with twice the amount of emotes than before.
GATER Buff
The GATER got a buff with Devoid of Liberty. Players will enjoy improved speed, handling, and responsiveness in the traversal vehicle, on top of other various changes.
Increased:
- Speed
- Turning Rate
- Acceleration
- Braking
- Ammo Capacity
- Health
Reduced:
- Knockback
- Damage from Impact
- Rolling Sideways
- Enemies will also no longer attack the GATER when it is empty and idle.
Weapons and Stratagem Adjustments
Weapons and Combat Deployables got tweaked in the 7.0.0 patch.
- The R-2’s “Constitution” fully reloads when depleted.
- Short magazines now start with and carry more ammo. The Stoker’s reload time also got reduced down from 2.8 to 2.3 seconds.
- The P-113 Verdict, M6C/ SOCOM Pistol, and P-19 Redeemer all receive increased starting ammo.
- Eagle Napalm’s explosion radius was increased from 8 metres to 10. Its flight pattern also moves more horizontally.
- MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines demolition strength was increased from 30 to 40.
- Heavy Landings no longer take as long to recover from. Stim cooldowns also remember player input for a few seconds if used right as they become ready.
New Warhammer 40k Collaboration
Helldivers 2 is getting a Warhammer 40k themed Collaboration Bundle called the Castellan’s Creed Warbond. Named weapons, cosmetics, and mission challenges will all be themed around the tabletop franchise’s trademark Warhammer 40,000 universe.
The Castellan’s Creed Warbond borrows heavy influences from Warhammer 40k’s Imperial Guard Regiment, or the Astra Militarum as they’re more commonly known.
Additional Updates and Fixes
Update 7.0.0 contains tons of fixes to weapons, enemies, missions, visual effects and more.
Enemies will no longer instantly die from cave-ins or Ion Bomb detonations. The Orbital Laser will no longer get stuck targeting airborne enemies that aren’t valid targets. Players should also have an easier time landing GATERs without them rolling away.
Enemies also got some QOL adjustments. Hunters will make more consistent use of weapons when attacking FRVs and Veracitors should no longer try to fly through objects or get stuck moving around certain patrols.
Graphic upscaling receives a slight bump in image quality. Players using NVIDIA DLSS will also notice less ghosting around the borders of their screens.
