Several months ago, we got the first solid rumours that Sony might be working on remastered versions of the original God of War trilogy set in the Greek era.
Today, we got some additional details about this big remastered collection thanks to leaker Lunatic Ignus who revealed on his Discord (via extas1s) that Sony's PC port studio Nixxes are the developers behind these remasters, which suggests the collection could land on PC too, along with PlayStation 5.
In addition, the leaker reveals that games that will receive the remastered treatment include God of War 1, God of War 2, God of War 3 and God of War Ascension, the four major Greek saga games.
Sony are reportedly planning to announce these remastered versions of the iconic God of War games next year on the 20th anniversary of the first God of War game, which was released on March 22, 2005.
Now, none of this comes from the best sources in the gaming industry so take it with a major grain of salt until we get a proper announcement or a new leak from someone more credible than Lunatic Ignus.
I have to say, of all the games Sony remastered lately, this collection makes the most sense since the original God of War games didn't really age well in terms of visuals and could certainly benefit from a graphical makeover.
Also, it remains to be seen just how big these remasters will be. Hopefully, we're not getting something really simple like better frame-rate and resolution, which would be a bit disappointing to see. If it turns out that Nixxes are doing a proper remaster with better lighting, textures and more, you can bet your money this will sell like hotcakes, especially since a new God of War game won't be coming anytime soon.
