It didn't take long after the PC version of God of War: Ragnarok arrived for modders to figure out a way to circumvent having to log in to the PlayStation Network to play.
For many PC players, the idea that one needs to log in to PSN for a strictly single-player game has been an annoyance point. While the sign-up process to get a PSN account doesn't cost anything and is not all that difficult to do, the requirement simply feels like a complete waste of time to some users.
God of War: Ragnarok has absolutely no online features, and logging into PSN does nothing to affect gameplay. To many players, this is an unnecessary hoop to jump through.
To counter that, a modder has made a tiny mod called NoPSSDK. This removes the need for one to log in with PSN in order to play Ragnarok on PC. The mod itself is only 1.6 MB and fantastically easy to install.
According to its creator, the mod doesn't technically modify the code itself of the game; that means technically, it's not the same as pirating. It works its way around the PSN login requirement for the game.
But note that anyone using the mod does so at their risk. Though it works as designed by early users, there is no guarantee that in the future when the updates release, this mod will keep on working.
As always with behavior-changing mods, one should be very cautious and really sensitive about any potential aftereffects. For the time being, the NoPSSDK mod seems like a pretty ingenious workaround for those who might want to enjoy God of War: Ragnarok without going the extra mile of logging in to PSN. Only time will tell if it's going to be a viable solution, however.
