More recently, players on the PlayStation 5 voiced frustrations over the fact that ads were running as background videos - with no option to turn off-at the backend of navigation within the console's interface.
Well, Sony has now responded, ensuring this wasn't supposed to happen; it was simply a technical fault.According to Sony, the PlayStation 5's user interface does not display advertisements when users attempt to launch a game.
While Sony has addressed this issue as a glitch and an accident, some speculation about whether or not the ads were some kind of test to see user reactions before any sort of permanent change has arisen.
Whatever the case, this will be absolutely impossible now, as Sony's statement leaves no indication that the feature will be rolled out intentionally.
Console ads aren't entirely a new concept. To this date, PlayStation has only typically served ads across a few specific areas like the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Plus, while Xbox has carried ad tiles on the front page for years.
That means PS5 users, for the foreseeable future, won't see ads cluttering their interfaces; Sony is doubling down on its promise of a fluid, interruption-free gaming experience.
Sony also reassured gamers of its commitment to an interface which is easy to navigate and access, free of commercially interrupted distractions, so their focus remains on gaming.
