In a surprising news drop, Xbox have announced some very exciting news for all Halo fans. The company confirmed that several new Halo projects are coming in the future and even shared some of the work their artists did in Unreal Engine 5, which will be the engine for all Halo games moving forward as the devs leave behind the iconic Slipspace.
Additionally, another big update is regarding the 343 Industries studio name. From now on, the studio that exclusively developed new Halo games for Xbox will be known as Halo Studios.
Studio Head Pierre Hintze said the name change is like starting a new chapter for the studio.
"If you really break Halo down, there have been two very distinct chapters. Chapter 1 – Bungie. Chapter 2 – 343 Industries. Now, I think we have an audience which is hungry for more. So we’re not just going to try improve the efficiency of development, but change the recipe of how we make Halo games. So, we start a new chapter today," he said.
Halo Studios (it's going to take a while before I get used to that) also shared the first in-engine footage of what the next Halo games could look like thanks to Unreal. They are adamant that these shots below are not from a new game, it's more like what's possible for the new game thanks to the new tools.
The devs mentioned they are particularly excited with the engine features like Nanite and Lumen which should allow them to create stunning environments without much of a hassle.
Obviously, Halo is much more than stunning visuals and that's why the dev team are highlighting that they are aiming to bring the iconic feel of the game with strong physics systems, movement and shooting.
Halo Studios confirmed that no new Halo is imminent so it may take a while before we get to see the actual footage from one of these new Halo games that are currently in development.
