The team behind Dune: Awakening has issued a major update on the game's endgame direction, addressing player concerns and laying out upcoming improvements to both PvE accessibility and the Landsraad system. The message, posted by Funcom on their X page, outlines a clear goal: make the endgame experience more approachable for solo players and PvE-focused communities, while continuing to refine PvP and progression systems.
PvE Players Will Get More Breathing Room
One of the biggest changes coming to Dune: Awakening is the introduction of “Partial Warfare (PvE)” zones in the Deep Desert. These areas will allow players to explore, gather T6 resources, and interact with key objectives without forced PvP conflict. While certain high-reward locations, like shipwrecks, spice fields, and Landsraad control points, will remain in PvP territory, this adjustment opens up a large portion of the endgame loop to PvE players who prefer to progress without direct combat.
The developers acknowledge that the original vision of a tense, player-driven endgame didn’t account for how quickly competitive PvP would dominate the Deep Desert. With this update, PvE players will be able to engage with endgame content at their own pace, though large-scale activities will still be tuned with group play in mind.
Changes to PvP and Vehicle Combat
But these changes don't mean that PvP is being ignored. The studio is making adjustments to Scout Ornithopters, which have been dominating combat encounters:
- Reduced speed and manoeuvrability for rocket-equipped Thopters
- Increased heat generation when firing rockets
- Thrusters will now define top speed, creating clearer vehicle roles
- A new T5 infantry rocket launcher will be added for anti-vehicle ground combat
Other changes are coming to respawn timers, vehicle storage, and abuse-prone mechanics in the Deep Desert. The goal is to restore balance and reinforce the intended “combined arms” approach, where infantry, ground vehicles, and air units all have defined roles and counters.
Landsraad Overhaul: Better Pacing, Rewards, and Variety
The Landsraad system is also being reworked to better serve its role as the central framework for endgame activities. Currently, the system has faced criticism for its overly simplistic tasks and rewards that don’t align well with endgame progression.
Key improvements on the way include:
- Slower turn-in rates for some objectives to prevent stockpiling abuse
- Fixes for hand-in issues after certain tasks are completed
- Micro-rewards for solo and small-group players
- Expanded activity types, including new dungeons, boss fights, and potential future raids
The Landsraad will remain central to the game’s political and factional systems but will become more rewarding and meaningful for all types of players, not just those focused on PvP or large guild participation.
To be honest, it's always great to see the developers reshaping the content based on community feedback. PvE players will soon have more space to explore and progress without unwanted conflict, while PvP systems are being balanced to encourage fairer, more dynamic encounters.
Meanwhile, the Landsraad is evolving into a more robust, flexible system with improved pacing and stronger rewards for everyone. Overall, it's a great step forward for Dune: Awakening and some of the issues that the game has at the moment.
