Funcom used Gamescom 2025 to unveil the next big step for Dune: Awakening, including its first free story update, a new paid DLC, and a limited-time free trial.

Funcom has announced a wave of new content for Dune: Awakening, its open-world survival MMO set on Arrakis. Revealed during the Into the Infinite showcase at Gamescom 2025, the update roadmap includes the game’s first free story chapter, a paid DLC, and a limited-time free trial for new players.

Dune Chapter 2 content

Chapter 2, a free major content update, launches on September 10. It continues the main story that ended on a cliffhanger in the base game, introducing new characters, locations, and dynamic encounters. The update also adds world contracts, activities, fresh items, and a character re-customization feature with expanded creation options such as new hairstyles.

The Lost Harvest DLC

Alongside the free update, Funcom will release The Lost Harvest, a $12.99 DLC. This standalone story follows the crash of a Miner’s Guild spice harvester that hides a mysterious cargo capable of changing the balance of power. The DLC also unlocks new cosmetics, including the Treadwheel vehicle with unique animations, new building sets, decorations, armor, and weapons. All items remain balanced with base-game gear and require crafting like other content. The DLC is included in the game’s Season Pass, Deluxe Edition, and Ultimate Edition.

To mark the Gamescom showcase, Funcom has also launched a free trial for Dune: Awakening, available on Steam until August 24. The trial offers 10 hours of play across the Hagga Basin map, with progress carrying over if players purchase the full game afterwards. Trial players will also encounter others exploring Arrakis, though they won’t be able to group up with full-game owners during the event.
