Funcom has revealed Chapter 3 for Dune: Awakening, which is set to be the game's biggest update since launch, addressing one of the community's most requested features: expanded endgame content. The free update arrives alongside the paid DLC called Raiders of the Broken Lands, which adds 74 Smuggler-themed building pieces and more cosmetics.
Free Chapter 3 Update Revamps Endgame
Funcom say that the goal of Chapter 3 is to focus on providing deeper progression options for players who reach tier 6, the current endgame threshold. The update introduces a rebuilt Landsraad system from the ground up, expanded faction ranks, and a new Specialisation system offering more meaningful advancement paths for both PvE and other playstyles.
"We know players want a richer experience late in the game, and this update lays essential foundations for what's coming next," said Joel Bylos, Creative Director. "We've rebuilt the Landsraad system from the ground up, added new ways to earn rewards whether you play solo or in groups, expanded faction ranks, and introduced the new Specialization system."
The update adds five new challenge locations to the overland alongside brand-new missions and repeatable Testing Stations with escalating difficulty for additional rewards. The main story continues from Chapter 2's cliffhanger with hours of additional narrative content.
Combat Improvements and New Weapons
Combat has received some general improvements and there's also the introduction of Dual Blades and the Pyrocket weapon, plus a complete Rapier rework. These additions expand the arsenal available to players navigating Arrakis' harsh environments and hostile encounters.
Raiders of the Broken Lands DLC
The paid Raiders of the Broken Lands DLC, included in the Season Pass, provides 74 Smuggler-themed building pieces and 17 decorations alongside dedicated stillsuit sets, light and heavy armour variants, weapon skins, swatches, and emotes. The DLC costs $9.99 separately or is included in the $24.99 Season Pass.
Funcom are adamant that there's no pay to win items here; everything is purely cosmetic.
Steam Winter Sale Discount
And lastly, if Dune: Awakening always looked like your cup of tea, but the price was too steep, the game is now available at 35% off during the Steam Winter Sale, marking the highest discount since the game's launch.
The survival game, inspired by Frank Herbert's novels and Denis Villeneuve's blockbuster films, launched earlier this year to positive reception from fans of the franchise but the hype eventually nosedived as everyone started to reach the poorly designed endgame, which this update aims to fix.
