Following the announcement of the Crash Bandicoot crossover with Call of Duty, which Activision published yesterday in a trailer on the official Call of Duty YouTube channel, fans are, to put it mildly, outraged by the direction in which Call of Duty, and especially Warzone 2, is going and the lack of seriousness they are showing towards this once unrivalled series.
Since Call of Duty has always been seen as a very serious shooter in the gaming community, it has long been assumed that Fortnite is better suited for younger players and Warzone is better suited for somewhat older and more serious gamers.
So what is it that caused the anger among the fans of this iconic shooter? Namely, the new Crash Bandicoot Bundle, which Call of Duty players will be able to purchase separately, contains weapon skins featuring Crash, Coco, and the rest of the crew from this series, as well as a special type of quad that can be driven in Warzone 2, which looks like it jumped straight out of a cartoon.
Fan comments on social media, and especially on Reddit, are disturbing, to say the least. One Reddit user said: "I know they (Activision) are in this for the money, which the company isn't, to be honest, but please, give us something that looks like a real gun, not a child toy, for God's sake."
The good news is that these are just skins, which can be purchased or not. However, fans are worried that as more and more people purchase these cosmetics, Call of Duty will shift from being a pure war game to a "Dance Simulation," in the words of some die-hard fans.
